In the city of Chicago, the minimum wage increases as of July 1, 2022 to $15.40 per hour for companies with more than 20 employees and to $14.50 per hour for companies with 4 to 20 employees. Under this ordinance, employers are prohibited from retaliating against employees who exercise their rights.
For up-to-date information on municipalities that have opted out of the Cook County ordinance, you can call your local city council. However, these municipalities must continue to pay employees the Illinois minimum wage, which is $12 per hour.
