UPDATED SALARIES IN ILLINOIS 2022

In the State of Illinois, the wage is $12 per hour as of January 2022. Each year it will increase by one more dollar until it reaches $15.00 per hour. As of January 2022, the minimum hourly wage in the state of Illinois is $12. The amount will increase by a dollar each year until it reaches $15 an hour.

In the city of Chicago, the minimum wage increases as of July 1, 2021 to $15 per hour for companies with more than 20 employees and to $14 per hour for companies with 4 to 20 employees. For tipped employees, the minimum wage is $9 per hour and if they do not complete the minimum wage set by law, the employer must fill in the missing portion up to $15 per hour. As of July 2021, minimum wage in the city of Chicago is $15 an hour for businesses with more than 20 employees, and $14 an hour for businesses with 4 to 20 employees. The minimum wage for employees who receive tips is $9 an hour, but if the tips do not add up to the legal minimum wage ($15), the employer must account for the difference.

Under this ordinance, employers are prohibited from retaliating against employees who exercise their rights.

For up-to-date information on municipalities that have opted out of the Cook County ordinance, you can call your local city council. However, these municipalities must continue to pay employees the Illinois minimum wage, which is $12 per hour. So far, the municipalities that have opted out are, in alphabetical order, the following*:
